What do we do?

At the CRAI, we investigate how ecological and agronomic conditions shape the phytochemical architecture of complex plant systems. We examine how these environmental configurations translate into patterns of molecular bioactivity and their potential interaction with human regulatory processes, within an evolutionary and non-reductionist framework.

This approach enables the integration of ecological sustainability, biological variability, and systemic regulation within a unified scientific architecture.

Specialized Studies and Research Programs

We conduct structured ethnobotanical and ethnopharmacological research, alongside controlled cultivation trials, to investigate the regulatory potential of medicinal plants within documented contexts of use. Our work bridges historical empirical knowledge and contemporary scientific methodology, generating systematically validated data within a coherent evolutionary and ecological framework.

Development and Design of Innovative Cultivation Strategies

We design and refine cultivation strategies aimed at shaping the phytochemical architecture of medicinal plants under controlled ecological conditions. Rather than focusing on isolated compounds, we investigate how environmental variables influence complex phytochemical matrices and their potential regulatory bioactivity within a systems-based approach.

Laboratory Analysis and Molecular Profiling

We perform detailed analyses of plant material, soil, water, and related environmental samples using advanced analytical platforms, including UHPLC and gas chromatography. These methodologies enable high-resolution phytochemical profiling and reproducible data generation, ensuring methodological rigor and reliability across research programs.

The Institute

The Centro Rausenbach de Análisis e Investigación (CRAI) is dedicated to basic research in the natural and life sciences. Its focus lies on the Human–Plant binomial. It was established in 2019 and has operated since 2024 as a division of the Rausenbach Foundation.

Mission

We transform fundamental research into innovation with systemic relevance. We connect evolutionary biology, neurophysiological regulation, and plant sciences to develop applications grounded in complex systems.
Through the critical analysis of ethnobotanical records and ethnopharmacological evidence, we reinterpret accumulated empirical knowledge within a contemporary evolutionary and regulatory framework, integrating it into applicable and scientifically validated models.

Vision

To establish a new research paradigm that integrates human evolution, neurobiological regulation, and plant systems as components of a unified scientific framework.
The CRAI aspires to become a reference centre in the development of regulatory models based on complex biological systems, contributing simultaneously to the understanding of human variability and to ecological sustainability from a scientifically grounded perspective.

Our projects

At the Centro Rausenbach de Análisis e Investigación (CRAI), we develop scientific projects that explore the interactions between plants, the human brain, and the environment from an evolutionary, molecular, and applied perspective. Initiatives such as Neurobotanica, NeuroPhytome, PharmaNtech, and MountainGreen integrate neuroscience, plant science, and sustainability to generate knowledge with impact on human health, pharmacological innovation, and ecosystem resilience. Neurobotánica, NeuroPhytome, PharmaNtech y MountainGreen integran neurociencia, fitociencia y sostenibilidad para generar conocimiento con impacto en la salud humana, la innovación farmacológica y la resiliencia de los ecosistemas.
